Protesters Shut Down APC Secretariat Over Audu’s Emergence As Kogi Guber Candidate
It was a showdown between former Kogi State governor, Abubukar Audu and hundreds of Kogi indigenes who protested against his candidature in the forthcoming state election at the national Secretariat of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja Wednesday.
The protesters who literally shut down the secretariat demanded the reversal of Audu’s victory on the account of his pending corruption case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
It will be recalled that Audu, last Saturday emerged the party flag bearer ahead the November 21 governorship election in Kogi state, beating 27 other aspirants and was at the party’s headquarters to collect his Certificate of Return.
He had gone to the secretariat for the purpose on Tuesday but was denied by the authorities who gave time for appeal against his candidature by aggrieved aspirants.
Some placards displayed by the protesters read “Kogi state say no to Audu, “We need a credible leader in kogi” among others, were also seen throwing stone at Audu’s supporters within the party house premises.
Speaking to Journalists, the leader of the protesters, Suleiman Muhammad, said that Audu’s ongoing case with EFCC was enough to disqualify him from the contest.
