Nigeria partners China on space technology
Federal Government has agreed to partner with the Republic of China on space technology transfer.
The agreement was reached, Wednesday, when the ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Gu Xiaojie visited the Minister of Science and Technology in Abuja.
The Ambassador, who expressed delight with the new momentum of change and economic prosperity being spearheaded by Nigerian government said China developed interest in Nigeria because Nigeria is the only African country that has cooperation in terms of space technology by developing the sector.
With the level space technology in Nigeria and ongoing efforts to develop the sector, he stated that Nigeria will go a long way to pushing other sectors of the economy to improve on their various capacity.
Xiaojie said the Republic of China would want to share its experiences with Nigeria to enable both countries benefit in the mutual relationship.
According to the Ambassador, ‘‘China is ready to forge a closer relationship with Nigeria and we are willing to collaborate with Nigeria to move forward.’’
Responding, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonna Onu, said there was need for China and Nigeria relationship, as an economy that is technologically driven.
‘‘We are pleased by this visit and I want to pledge that Nigeria will need the collaboration of China to develop her space technology potentials.
The Minister however, expressed optimism that the visit would foster stronger bilateral relationship between Nigeria and China in space technology.
‘‘There are many Bill gates in Nigeria. If Nigerians belief in technology, most of their problems will be solved. I am preparing for Nigerian greatness because we want to change the nation.
‘‘Adaptation is the way to go, so that our technology start- ups can grow get better as they grow.
Without science and technology our change agenda can’t be achieved, hence the need to get Nigerian appreciates the importance of science and technology,’’ he added.
