Arsenal are preparing a summer move for Watford’s leading goal scorer Odion Ighalo.

Manager, Arsene Wenger sees the Super Eagles striker as a better alternative to recently crowned African footballer of the year Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as the Gunners look to bolster their front line

The club’s scouts have been tasked with picking out prolific front men ahead of the summer transfer window,

and Ighalo’s sensational start to his debut Premier League season has seen him emerge as a target. Ighalo is also more of a budget option, too, but that doesn’t mean he’s not as effective, as he’s scored 14 goals already this term and has been the catalyst behind the Hornets’ surge up the Premier League.

Ighalo, sat on the bench in yesterday’s FA Cup fixture against Newcastle. He was quoted as saying that he wouldn’t turn down a move to Manchester United, if the Red Devils come calling.

The former Nigerian youth international has also attracted interest from Atletico Madrid

“I understand (these stories). We are in the January transfer window so we have to accept these stories.

“It is every good news for Watford (that our players are attracting interest). It is good news for (Troy) Deeney, (Odion) Ighalo, (Nathan) Ake or (Etienne) Capoue.

“It means that the players are playing really well,” Watford coach Quique Sanchez Flores told assembled media at his press conference.
