Man to die by hanging over N100,000 jewellery
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has convicted one Friday James of armed robbery and sentenced him to death by hanging.
The convict, a middle-aged man, was said to have robbed one Olanrewaju of her jewellery worth about N100,000.
The convict, who was said to be armed with a gun and a machete, was said to have also attacked and inflicted injuries on Olanrewaju’s husband’s head and hands with his weapons.
The state prosecutor, Mr. Akin George, told the court that the convict committed the crime on February 17, 2012 at about 3am in the Ikeja area of Lagos.
According to George, the crime was contrary to Section 297 Criminal law of Lagos State 2011, and Section 295 (2) (a).
The trial judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, on Tuesday found James guilty on the two counts pressed against him by the state.
The judge said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubts.
Justice Ipaye had last week Wednesday convicted Omoilodan Seun and Gbenga Kayode of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted armed robbery and sentenced them to death by hanging.
The convicts were said to have robbed one Alhaji Jinadu of phones and money on November 2, 2011 on Ayangburen Road, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
The convicts were also said to have waylaid and robbed one Rilwan Gbadamosi and his wife on November 9, 2011 along the same Ayangburen Road in Ikorodu.
The court found them guilty on the three counts pressed against them by the state.
