Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Tuesday that the Federal Government was working relentlessly to kill the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike, however, noted that contrary to the plans of the Federal Government, it was the party (All Progressives Congress) controlling the Federal Government that would die politically.
The governor maintained that “deliberate efforts” by agents of the Federal Government to stagnate development in the state would not succeed.
He made this remark while receiving the leadership of Non-Indigenes Without Borders led by Mr. Emeka Onowu at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
According to the governor, “We have a sad situation where everything is being done at the federal level to kill the PDP. However, in the end, it is their own political party that will die.”
Wike decried “repeated plots” to rig the forthcoming rerun elections in Rivers State and added that nobody would be allowed to steal the mandate of Rivers people, no matter the deployment of some compromised security agencies.
He said, “They are repeatedly shifting the date of the rerun elections so that they can have a convenient time to rig. Nobody should be scared of their plan to use the DSS and police to rig the rerun elections.
“The policeman that is carrying gun; how many people can he kill? In Turkey where they resisted the Army, are they not human beings? Nobody will circumvent the mandate of the Rivers people.”
The governor explained that as an opposition state, the people of Rivers were aware that they would have battles for survival from those controlling the federal level.
Maintaining that his action at the residence of a judge on October 8, 2016, was not aimed at stopping the DSS operatives from arresting a judge, Wike said his intervention was targeted at ensuring that the right process was followed.
Earlier in his remark, the National Leader of the Non-Indigenes Without Borders, Mr. Emeka Onowu, lauded the governor for providing leadership that had helped to shapen democracy in the country.
Onowu commended the governor for being detribalised and showing commitment towards addressing issues affecting various interest and ethnic groups in the state.
