The North-West zonal office of the Department of Petroleum Resources has sanctioned three petrol stations for hoarding and selling fuel above the official pump price.
The Surveillance Team, led by the Zonal Operational Controller, also dispensed 23, 800 litres of hoarded petrol to the public from the sanctioned filling stations.
The affected petrol stations included Suabco Petroleum Nigeria Limited, Shemako Nigeria Limited and Niyya Ventures, which had in their reservoirs 11, 800, 9, 200, and 2, 800 litres of petrol respectively.
Addressing journalists shortly after dispensing the hoarded petrol, the Controller, Alhaji Isa Tafida, lambasted fuel marketers for causing unnecessary hardship to motorists by creating scarcity.
Tafida warned against acts of sabotage, noting that the agency would continue to sanction recalcitrant marketers.
He said, “Motorists are suffering due to lack of fuel but people are busy hoarding the product, causing unnecessary queues and hardship.
“The marketers are aware that we have surveillance teams going to the nooks and crannies of the state and monitoring their movements.”
