The Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the Ondo State governorship election, Eyitayo Jegede, secured a landslide victory in his own Akure South and North Local Government Areas.
The results were announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission early Sunday morning at its collation centre in Akure.
In Akure South, Jegede polled 47,627 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, who secured 17, 277 votes. Zenith Labor Party candidate, Agboola Ajayi, garnered 3,623 votes.
In Akure North, Akeredolu got 9,546 votes; Jegede, 12,263; and Ajayi 1,046 votes.
The breakdown of the figures shows that Jegede defeated his closet contender with 33,067 votes in Akure – 2,717 in the North and 30,350 in the South.
Jegede hails from Ondo Central Senatorial District. The LGAs in the Ondo Central are: Akure South, Akure North, Ifedore, Idanre, Ondo West, and Ondo East.
Some early results of the Ondo State governorship poll analysed by newsmen have revealed that the incumbent governor, Akeredolu, is in early lead in the race.
