President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed former military administrator of Lagos and Borno states, Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
Vanguard reports that a source in the Presidency who confirmed the development to newsmen said Marwa’s appointment takes immediate effect.
Prior to his appointment, General Marwa worked as Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse, PACEDA, from 2018 to 2020.
He was a military attaché, Nigerian Embassy, Washington DC, USA, and defence attaché, United Nations, New York.
Marwa was also a former ambassador to South Africa and the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland.
Recall that the Agency had denied speculations that its Former Chairman, retired Col. Muhammad Abdallah was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Jonah Achema, spokesperson for NDLEA, who made the clarifications in a statement said the tenure of Abdallah whose appointment began on Jan. 12, 2016 expired on Jan.11.
According to him, Abdallah’s five-year tenure elapsed on Jan. 11.
