Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman, has hailed Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi, as the most important man in the club’s history.

Koeman said this while reacting to Messi equaling the Barcelona legend, Xavi Hernandez’s all-time appearance record for the Blaugrana.

Recall Messi made his 767th outing for Barcelona in Monday’s 4-1 victory over Huesca in the LaLiga at the Camp Nou to match Xavi’s record for appearances.

The Argentine’s brace and a strike from Antoine Griezmann and Oscar Mingueza gave Koeman’s men all three points against Huesca.

Reacting, Koeman said at a post-match press conference after the game, “I cannot say more about Leo.

“The level he has for many years, many games. He has equalled Xavi, and on Sunday, in principle, he will surpass him.

“He is the most important man in the history of Barca. Luckily he is still with us.”

Barcelona will face Real Sociedad in their next fixture in the LaLiga on Sunday.
