Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has revealed why he sacked his Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Igbiks Tamuno.

It was earlier reported that the Governor sacked the State Commissioner for Environment, Igbiks Tamuno.

Wike in a statement by Kelvin Ebiri, his Special Assistant on Media, directed the sacked Commissioner to submit all Government Documents and Property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment.

However, the Governor while explaining the reason behind his decision in a statement on Wednesday, said Tamuno wrote to construction company, Julius Berger, to stop work in the state without his approval.

The Governor also disclosed that the sacked commissioner never notified the Ministry of Works before writing the letter.

“I don’t know how a commissioner can write to a company to stop work without my approval. He wrote to Julius Berger to stop construction in the entire State.

“I didn’t know that commissioners have so much power like that and it’s obvious some of people don’t know the limits of their power.

“These are contractors working for the state government and he never notified the Ministry of Works.

“Also, we have paid Julius Berger, so ordering them to stop work is automatically giving them the room to come and ask for variation later,” he said.
