Police in Jigawa State has arrested 279 motorcyclists for violating the state government’s order on the restriction of movement.

Recall that the Jigawa State Government had banned the movements of motorcycles from 9pm to 6am to check insecurity.

Police Spokesman ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the arrest to newsmen.

He said the move is part of measures adopted by the state government to ensure maximum security of its citizens.

Shiisu explained that following the executive order by the Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, the police swung into action to ensure the total enforcement of the order.

According to him “we were able to arrest Two Hundred and Seventy-Nine motorcyclists across the State and Two Hundred and Twenty Three Ninety have been charged to court for prosecution” he stated.

The Command, however, called on motorcycle riders in the state to comply with the order as it will not relent in its efforts to deal decisively with any violator.
