President Muhammadu Buhari has flagged off the 6th round of polio immunisation in Katsina State with the symbolic immunisation of a child at his residence in Daura.

The latest flag-off, coming after the President kicked off the national immunisation, is to mark the formal commencement of the exercise in the state.

The President administered the polio vaccine in a brief ceremony to further demonstrate his commitment to polio eradication.

The event for the flag-off which was held at the President’s personal residence was attended by Katsina State governor Aminu Bello Masari and other key government officials.

In a brief remark on the occasion, Governor Masari commended President Buhari for showing greater commitment to polio eradication, stressing that the evidence of President Buhari’s good leadership had started to manifest.

Masari said the last reported case of polio was recorded in the state three years ago, assuring that his administration would step up measures to ensure total eradication of the state.

The chairman of Katsina State task force on polio eradication and the state deputy governor, Mannir Yakubu said the state was doing well in the area of routine immunisation with 90 per cent of children covered.

“We have distributed enough vaccine, trained staffs and intensified mobilisation,” Yakubu said, noting that surveillance activities in the state confirmed that there was no new reported cases.
