Japan proposes five additional sports for 2020 Olympics
The Tokyo Olympic Organising Committee on Monday recommended the inclusion of five additional sports to the 2020 games.
They are baseball-softball, karate, surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding.
The five sports, if accepted by the International Olympic Committee, would add 18 competitions and 474 athletes to the programme for the 2020 summer Olympic Games, the committee said.
The committee made the recommendation from a choice of eight sports where bowling, squash and wushu did not make the cut.
The IOC will make a final decision on including the sports for 2020 next August in Rio de Janeiro, prior to the 2016 Games.
