Five die in Osogbo, Ife cult clashes
Three people were feared killed and five injured over the weekend during a clash between two cult groups in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The cause of the clash could not be ascertained but security sources said two leading members of the groups started the fight that led to the death of one of them at a bar on Iwo/Osogbo Road.
It was gathered a cult member attacked the rival group’s member who denied him entry into the bar.
After he escaped, the victim went to two higher institutions to recruit more hands to help him fight his attackers.
The source said: “He recognised the man who assaulted him and since the incident happened, they were on his trail and later caught up with him at Adenle, Sabo Area of Osogbo.”
The rival cult groups clashed in Sabo area for several hours, forcing many residents to remain indoors.
After the clash, a victim with a deep matchet cut on the head was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Two persons were reportedly killed in Ile Ife in another clash.
A source said one of the victims was a student of a private polytechnic in the town.
The identity of the other victim could not be confirmed but sources said many rival gang members were injured during the fight.
Police spokesperson Mrs. Folashade Odoro said the incidents were being investigated.
