The Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has told critics of his performance in the “inconclusive” Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections to focus more on the provisions of the law rather than sentiments.

Yakubu was speaking on Tuesday at The Electoral Institute, Abuja where he hosted the 11th Public Lecture of the‎ institute.

He said this was neither the first nor fifth time that elections would be declared inconclusive, saying in future, as elections get more competitive and citizens actively participating in the process, more elections could also be inconclusive.

Yakubu was however quick to add that INEC was already studying the situations in Kogi and Bayelsa with a view to ensuring that elections are concluded on the first ballot.
