The Police in Rivers State have reportedly killed five suspected kidnappers and armed robbers said to have been involved in series of armed robberies and kidnappings in Port Harcourt and its environs

The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Musa Kimo who disclosed this yesterday in a statement in Port Harcourt said one of those shot dead during exchange of fire with policemen was the leader of a gang that allegedly murdered the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Rumuokoro Division, CSP Cliff Igwegbe about two weeks ago.

The state Police chief, who spoke through the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said the other suspects met their death in a shoot out with policemen along Aluu/Airport Road after a failed kidnap bid they embarked on.

The Police command further said two other suspects arrested confessed to being part of the gang that attacked the late CSP Igwegbe.

The Police said two AK- 47 riffles, one assault rifle, 119 rounds of live ammunition, seven magazines were among items recovered during the operation.

He a kidnap victim, Ken Livinus, was also rescued during the operation.

He said: “The Rivers State Police Command announces the arrest of two notorious armed robbers who confessed to have been involved in series of armed robberies and kidnappings in Port Harcourt and its environs, including the recent gruesome murder of late CSP Cliff Igwegbe, who was the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuokoro Division before his death.
