The Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has directed that there should be no goodwill messages shared on the occasion of the country’s 56th Independence anniversary.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Dan Manjang, on Friday, Lalong said the ban was placed due to economic recession.

He also directed political office holders in the state to observe the Independence anniversary solemnly by using the period to visit their respective constituencies and inspect all ongoing government projects.

He also told them to visit the Internally Displaced Persons’ camps in their localities.

Meanwhile, Lalong has congratulated Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress on winning the Edo State governorship election which held on Wednesday.

Describing Obaseki’s victory as “one for democracy and a triumph of the people’s will,” Lalong also congratulated Governor Adams Oshiomhole on the successful running of his administration.
