Head Coach of Nigeria U-17 women national team – Flamingoes, Bala Nikyu, has stated that the target of his team is to go beyond the quarter-final stage at this year's FIFA U-17 World Cup in Jordan.
The Flamingoes will take on Brazil today (Saturday) in Group C opening game at the World Cup.
The team has made it to the quarter-finals in the last three editions (2010, 2012, 2014).
According to thenff.com, Nikyu said in his pre-match press conference that his team will try and avoid mistakes that has hampered them from going far at previous editions.
"We have been in camp working hard towards making our mark at this World Cup," Nikyu pointed out.
"Nigeria has always been participating in this category of the Women's World Cup and we don't want to replicate past mistakes. We want to do well and surpass previous records."
He played down his team's lack of international exposure, positing that with determination and a little bit of luck, they will do well.
“What matters is the determination of the players and that element of luck, which also plays a part in the game of football.”
