A man identified as Mr. I. Franklyn, standing trial for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter, yesterday, at Rivers State judiciary complex, Port Harcourt, attempted to kill himself.


During the trial, the accused, aged 38, suddenly grabbed one piece of tile among the ones brought to court as exhibit, and stabbed himself.

The accused made the attempt on his life after Chief Magistrate F. Amanze, adjourned his case to December 23 for mention and ordered that he be remanded at the Port Harcourt prison.

Chief Magistrate Amanze also referred the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for further action.

A prison official told newsmen that the accused allegedly raped his daughter on September 23 in Okujagu community, Port Harcourt City Local Government and chained the little girl in the house, until she was rescued by neighbours.
