The Accord Party on Friday said it would not participate in the Sept. 30 Lagos constituency bye-election in Eti-Osa Local Government area.
That the election is to fill the vacant seat following the death of Mr Kazeem Alimi, the lawmaker representing the area on July 18.
Chief Gbenga Kool, the state Chairman of Accord Party, told NAN in Lagos that the party was not participating in the election because it had no structures there.
He said it would be a waste of time and resources for the party to field a candidate in an election in which it had no chances of winning.
Kool said the party was currently busy challenging some of the results of the July 22 local council polls.
“We are not fielding any candidate in the Eti-Osa bye election and that was why we didn’t have a primary.
“The reason is simple and clear. We have no structures in Eti-Osa and we believe going there now for bye-election will amount to a waste of time and resources.
“We don’t want to be there just in name. The party is a credible party which operates according to some principles.
“What we are concentrating on now is challenging the some of the results of the last local government elections in the state at the tribunal,” he said.
Kool said the tribunal had been sitting and the party had been keeping its dates at the sitting.
He said that the party was challenging results in nine council areas where it believed its candidates won.
The party chairman said that the election was marked by irregularities and that was why only councillorship seats were declared to have been won by the party.
He said the party had overwhelming proof that the results were manipulated against it in the areas in contention and expressed confidence that the party would get justice.
