The choice of a governorship candidate for the All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of the 2019 elections in Rivers State has continued to widen the cracks within the party.

Some APC stakeholders drawn from the 23 Local Government areas of the state are insisting that every act of imposition must be stopped if the party must have its way in the 2019 general elections.

The APC stakeholders under the aegis of Progressive Allegiance for Magnus Abe, Kairus, and M30, an affiliate body of the party in a communique at the end of a meeting yesterday which lasted for hours in Port Harcourt, harped on the poor outing of the party at the 2015 general elections.

The group blamed the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for imposing the Director General of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside on the party in 2015.

They described Peterside as a weak candidate to Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike.

The stakeholders also blamed Amaechi for foisting weak candidates to contest elections in all the local government areas of the State.

The communique read by Amaechi’s ex-Commissioner for Justice, Wogu Boms, called on the party’s Working Committee to ensure “impartial, unbiased and all inclusive resolution of party members as well as right of members to support and canvass for the interest of the party without fear.”

The six points communique also called on Senator Magnus Abe to run as the 2019 APC governorship candidate.

The stakeholders, however, commended party members for keeping faith in the party.

The group comprises of individuals believed to be very close to Amaechi.

It includes member representing Ikwerre-Emohua Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Chidi Wehioka, former Chief of Staff Government House, Tony Okocha, former commissioner for Education, Allwell Onyesoh, Senator Wilson Ale, Austin Nwokocha, Aye Pepple among others.
