The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said that he will not yield to the threat by the Federal government to punish those who make “hate speeches”.

Wike said the threat by the Federal government was merely aimed at instilling fear into members of the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party.

The Rivers State Governor stated that he will not be cowed into ignoring the excesses of the Federal government, the ruling All Progressives Congress and its agents.

Governor Nyesom Wike stated this while addressing the Bishops and the Laity of Anglican communion at the 12th general synod in Diobu.

According to him, “I don’t know what they refer to as hate speech. I don’t know whether we should all keep quiet when things are going wrong.

“For instance, I have continuously said anybody who is coming to Rivers State to rig election should be treated as an armed robber. Will you describe that as an hate speech?”

Wike also said he does not belong to any cult group.

The governor stressed that he has never participated in any secret or open cult activities right from his youth.

He said the past administration of Rotimi Amaechi abandoned the Kono-Opobo-Andoni road. He promised to complete it before leaving office.

He also promised to sponsor over 1000 Anglican priests to Jerusalem for holy pilgrimage.

Meanwhile, the church of Nigeria Anglican communion has called on government at all levels to stop people who build on water channels to avert the incessant flooding experienced in parts of the country.

The primate of the Anglican communion in Nigeria, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh made the appeal while addressing the laity of the 12th general synod Anglican communion at st Paul’s cathedral Diobu.

Okoh also called on Christians to take their pride of place in all facet of the economy.

He called on those who design the educational curriculum not to compromise the Christian faith by merging CRK with civic Education.


The theme for the 12th general synod of the Anglican communion is “Thou shall not steal”, taken from Exodus 20:15.
