According to local radio reports, election materials have been seized at Wards 4 and 12 of Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State amid heavy shooting. Transport minister Rotimi Amaechi's Ubima Community is in Ward 4.
The trouble reportedly started just after Mr Amaechi left the PU8 where he voted.
An aide to the minister said: "I just got that" when asked to confirm the incident.
Apart from Mr Amaechi, a former governor and PDP leader, Celestine Omehia, is also from the area.
