President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Monday a work-free day for the Armed Forces in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Ibrahim Attahiru.
Buhari also ordered that Nigeria’s national flag be flown at half-mast across the country.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha disclosed this in a statement he issued late last night.
The statement reads: “His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has authorized that the national Flag of Nigeria be flown at half-mast in all public buildings and official residences across the country, with effect Monday May 24 to Wednesday May 26, 2021.
“The approval is to honour the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, ten military and service men who lost their lives in the plane crash on Friday.
“The President has similarly approved a work free day for members of the Armed Forces on Monday, May 24, 2021.”
Attahiru and 10 other officers lost their lives in a plane crash on Friday evening in Kaduna.
The Army Chief and his entourage were on an official assignment to the state when the mishap occurred at the Kaduna International Airport.
Attahiru and the other deceased officers were on Saturday flown back to Abuja for burial at the military cemetery.
