The Police in Jigawa State have arrested 19 suspected kidnappers of a traditional leader in Taura Local Government Area of the state.
It was reported that a gang of gunmen numbering about 60 kidnapped a 60-year-old Alh. Kabiru Ahmad (Wali of Taura) and set a police vehicle ablaze.
Police Spokesman in the state, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest of the suspects after a successful operation in the area.
He said that a combined team of policemen on Monday, between hours of 0700hrs -1600hrs succeeded in arresting some of the suspects.
According to him, “Operatives of Babura division, Taura division, Ringim division, Garki division, vigilante group and hunters group led by CP A. S. Tafida, assisted by area commander Ringim, raided the suspected’ criminals’ hideouts in Ringim and Garki”. He said.
He explained that three suspects were arrested at Galaga village in Ringim while 16 suspects were arrested at Fagen Gawo forest Garki Local Government.
The police spokesman said two bows and arrows, one cutlass, one knife, one solar panel, two handsets, two charmed bullet proof jackets, bunch of charms and sim packs were recovered from the suspects.
He said the suspects were transferred to the criminal investigation department for further investigation and will be charged to court soon.
