Unidentified gunmen who abducted a consultant neurologist with the Delta State Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, have demanded N15million ransom for his release.

The consultant, Dr. Obiabo Yahaya, is the DELSUTH chairman of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, MDCAN and was said to have been abducted on Tuesday at about 8:30pm while trying to enter his compound at Amukpe, Sapele.

Confirming the abduction yesterday, President of the DELSUTH Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, Dr. Innocent Okocha told newsmen that his abductors have already made contact with his family demanding a ransom of N15 million.

Dr. Okocha, while appealing for the release of the victim, stated that from information gathered, he was trailed home by his abductors who whisked him to an unknown destination.

He said: “Though the matter has been reported to the security operatives in the area, including the police, it is indeed saddening that doctors who risk their lives to render humanitarian services to the public are gradually becoming endangered species especially within Oghara and its environs.”
