40 injured in train derailment in Southern India
Indian officials said more than 40 people were injured when a passenger train derailed early Friday in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The Southern Railway of India official said in Tamil Nadu (India) that the passengers of the Bangalore-bound Kanyakumari-Bangalore City Express were injured after its four coaches derailed in Vellore district, around 170 km from the state capital Chennai.
It said in a statement that the coaches derailed at 4:15am local time.
It said those injured in the accident had been taken to hospital, while medical emergency services were also sent to the location.
It announced that as a result of chaos caused by the accident, 11 trains in the region had been cancelled.
TV footages showed that some of the coaches of the train lay turtle or up-side-down off the track.
The cause of the incident is not known yet.
