Manchester United fans hoping to see Paul Pogba make his second debut against Bournemouth on Sunday will be bitterly disappointed.
The 23-year-old was thought to be available for selection after the Frenchman completed his return to Old Trafford in a world record £89m move from Juventus.
However the FA have delayed Pogba's second Premier League debut by annohncing the midfielder is serving a one match ban.
With the start of the Premier League season just one day away the Football Assocation's official Twitter account released the names of footballers who will miss the opening weekend through suspension.
The news dumbfounded Manchester United fans on Twitter who could not work out how the midfielder has earned a ban despite not having played in the Premier League for four years.
The FA clarified the ruling after receiving a flurry of tweets calling on them to explain the seemingly perplexing decision.
"He was booked twice in last season's Coppa Italia, which results in a one-game ban. This has been transferred," the tweet read.
Pogba received two yellow cards in his last two games for Juventus, including a caution in the Coppa Italia final against AC Milan.
