Mediapro founder, Jaume Roures and a member of Barcelona board, has revealed that LaLiga actually approved Lionel Messi’s new contract.
He stated this on Friday following the announcement that the 34-year-old football King would not be continuing at Barcelona.
Barcelona announced on Thursday that they can no longer have Messi at Camp Nou after the Argentine became a free agent on July 1.
However, Roures claimed that LaLiga had approved of Messi’s contract days before the news of his exit broke.
Barcelona were not able to comply with the league’s financial regulations and have indicated that some other players may also leave.
“I can reliably assure, because I have verified it, that the issue of Messi’s registration with LaLiga was fully agreed and agreed upon for days,” he told rac1.
“Forty-eight hours ago, the agreement was ready to be announced, but something happened. I do not know what happened,” Roures added.
