Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna State has condemned the killing of some residents and destruction of property in Ungwan Magaji, Kigam, Kisicho and Kikoba villages, Kauru local government area of the State on Monday.
A statement issued by the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan explained that a report from the Defence Headquarters Operation Safe Haven disclosed that armed assailants attacked the villages early on Monday morning, and left six residents dead.
The six persons killed, according to the statement are Joseph Maza, Timvan Cibi Ciwo, Monday Titus, Asabe Magani, Laraba Danladi and Yosi Danladi.
The statement explained that the troops arrived the location and engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat.
The statement added that the attackers destroyed eight houses, six huts, one motorcycle and a generator, as well as some maize crops.
Governor Nasir el-Rufai, following the incident, expressed his sadness over the attack and condemned it as an action of depraved entities stripped of every shred of humanity.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims, and sent his condolences to their families. The Governor tasked security agencies working in the area to sustain thorough investigations into the incident.
The statement explained that investigations were ongoing in the general area and that the government would keep the public abreast of developments.
Similarly, the statement explained that the military and other security agencies were working with the governments of Kaduna and Plateau States, towards containing the renewed cycle of violence in Kauru LGA of Kaduna State and Bassa LGA of Plateau State, respectively.
