A former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam have called on Nigerians to continue to support and pray for President Muhammadu Buhari in his commitment to put Nigeria on the path of greatness.
Speaking after the Eid prayer in Minna on Friday, Abdulsalami enjoined Nigerians, especially Muslims, to take advantage of the Eid-el-Kabir to pray for Buhari’s quick and full recovery. He also advised Nigerians to continue to live in peace with one another irrespective of tribe and religion as no meaningful development would be achieved in a society without peace.
The former head of state also prayed for all “our leaders to lead us aright.”
Meanwhile, speaking with journalists on Friday shortly after he joined other Muslim faithful in observing Eid-el-Kabir prayer at Lantoro praying ground in Abeokuta, the state capital, Amosun added that Nigeria would be great again despite the current economic challenges confronting the country.
He said, “One thing that I know that is very dear to Mr. President’s heart is to make our economy rebound, that our economy picks up and that we create wealth for our people. And we cannot do that without diversification. In these key areas, we are walking our talk. I know with the support of the good people of Nigeria, Nigeria will be great again.”
He urged Nigerians to shun hate speech and violence, noting that since the President returned to the country from medical vacation in London, Nigeria’s economy had started picking up. He said Buhari had redoubled his efforts in fighting corruption, insecurity and ensuring economic recovery.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Alhaji Liadi Orunsolu, who prayed for the President and the country as a whole, urged the people to be faithful to God and man. He told the congregation to have patience and be willing to sacrifice for the progress of the country.
He said, “Although things are hard, I believe if we can have patience and are willing to sacrifice, things will be normal with time.”
Meanwhile, in its goodwill message to mark Eid-el-Kabir, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, called on Muslim faithful to intensify prayers against any misfortunes that might befall the nation.
In a statement signed by the JNI Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar-Aliyu, the Muslim body also called on Muslims to eschew rancour and bitterness, be forgiving, responsible in all undertakings and avoid anything capable of attracting Allah’s anger in the current socio-economic, political and security challenges bedevilling the nation.
He charged them to be steadfast in promoting the message and virtues of Islam during the Sallah period and beyond.
“We are implored to continue seeking Allah’s intervention on the nagging insecurity challenges bedevilling the country and good health for President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement partly read.
