Thousands attend Sylva's APC mega rally in Yenagoa
The Samson Siasia Stadium for the second time in four days, came alive as it, yesterday, hosted the mega-rally of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State.
The rally was a carnival of sort as thousands of APC chieftains and supporters clad in the party colours defied the scorching sun to converge on the arena to drum up support for their candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva and his running mate, Elder Wilberforce Igiri.
Speaking at the colourful event which attracted the who is who in the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said that Bayelsa State holds a pride of place in the nation, as he canvassed support for the APC governorship candidate, Sylva.
He said Bayelsa will be a greater state under an APC-led state government.
Earlier, National Leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said, the crowd that graced the occasion was an indication that Sylva had bounced back and called on Bayelsa voters to play by the rule and defend their votes on election day.
He said that the strength of the crowd has made the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, afraid, as he assured the crowd that victory can only be guaranteed if they participate in the process by casting their votes for the APC candidate.
According to him, Bayelsa can only experience greatness again when Sylva returns to Government House which will bring the change at the centre to the state in order to ensure development of infrastructure.
In his address, National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, called on the electorate to come out en masse to vote for the APC on Saturday.
Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, in his speech said, it was time for the people of the state to join the change train, noting that the state has nothing to show after 16 years of PDP leadership despite its enormous resources and contribution to the national economy.
Other speakers including former Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Managing Director, Timi Alaibe and Rivers State APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, urged massive support for the party during the election.
In his address, the governorship candidate and former Bayelsa governor, Sylva, thanked Bayelsans for the show of love and support.
