Contrary speculations over the fitness of Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel ahead of June Africa Cup of nations qualifying match against South Africa, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has insisted that the Tianjin Teda of China midfielder will be fit on time for the clash.

NFF assistant technical director, Siji Lagunju, said Mikel is set to be part of the team to face Bafana Bafana on June 10 in Uyo.

Olagunju maintained that the Eagles captain will be needed to drive his colleagues to their much-needed victory over Bafana Bafana.

"The match is a month way and Mikel should be fit in time for the game," assured Lagunju.
"It's important he's part of the team because he is a driving force, a role model to many of the players. His leadership qualities are second to none."

Mikel's Chinese club Tianjin Teda announced last week that the former Chelsea star has resumed training after his surgery to allay fears he will be sidelined for several weeks.

In March, Mikel and other China-based Eagles stars were overlooked by Coach Gernot Rohr for a training camp in London so that they could settle in at their new bases.
