Abia govt to introduce free meals in primary schools
ABIA State government said it would soon commence serving free meals to primary schools pupils in the State.
To this end, the government has set up a committee and mandated it to liaise with the Ministry of Women Affairs to work out details of the programme.
The commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Bonie Iwuoha who announced this said it was the decision of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
According to Iwuoha, ten schools would be selected from each of the 17 Local Government Areas of the state for the pilot take-off of the programme.
He said that a total of 3,000 pupils would be fed three times a week during this pilot stage, namely on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
