Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state were yesterday engaged in war of words over the financial position of the state.

On his part, governor Fayose accused the Ekiti APC of deliberately fabricating unsubstantiated allegations with the intent of throwing the state into confusion and anarchy.

Picking holes in the governor’s explanation, the APC said it was not satisfied with the financial status of the state.

Fayose clears air

Apparently peeved with what he described as grossly unconfirmed claims that usually consist of half-truth innuendos and absolute lies that the APC churns out against the State Government, Fayose described the outburst of APC as the ranting of a drowning man looking for who to cling to.

Reacting to a statement by the APC, Governor Fayose “in a normal clime, members of a party that ruled Ekiti for four years, borrowing billions of naira to plant flowers that were never seen, thereby plunging the State into debt would bury their heads in shame.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, the governor said; “It is on record that about N830 million was released by the APC government of Fayemi for SUBEB 2013 counterpart fund. However, the fund was immediately withdrawn from the Access Bank account to which it was paid, the fund was released by the UBEC, Abuja.”

On allocation received by the State in December, the governor’s aide said; “After over N900 million was deducted from the State allocation directly from Abuja as loan repayment, what remained was a little above N1.3 billion while the 16 Local Councils also got a little above N1.3 billion.

“About N2.6 billion is spent on salaries, subvention, pension and gratuity monthly by the State government alone and one wonders how sensible it is for the APC spokesperson, Taiwo Olatunbosun to have added State allocation with that of the local government as if State government workers are the same as those of the Local Councils.”

He said: “If not that they are extremely shameless, members of such a party that mismanaged the finances of Ekiti State to the extent that deductions will be made from the State allocation till 2036 should naturally be on their bended kneels, pleading to Ekiti people for forgiveness.”

Fayose govt’s full of lies — Ekiti APC

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun, the APC said; “We don’t expect anything less than Fayose’s usual lie as an instrument of governance.”

The statement reads: “It is gratifying that the Federal Ministry of Finance two days ago published in newspapers the October federal allocations to state and local governments across the country.

“In Ekiti share of the allocation, the state got N1,967,380,219.98 contrary N1.3 billion quoted by Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, while allocation to the 16 local governments is N1,668,555,972.02 contrary to N1.3 billion quoted by Olayinka.”

In addition, the APC spokesperson said; “Records are available at EKSCDA and YESSO projects on how Fayose refused funding of those great World Bank-assisted projects for the benefit of Ekiti people, but he increased his personal security vote to N250m to pursue private comfort abroad after misapplication of the bailout cash, leaving workers with unpaid salaries that he is now blaming on Fayemi’s debt.”

“Both Fayose and Olayinka are perfect match in integrity deficiency quotient and so we expect them to spin lies to defend their disservice to the people of Ekiti State”, he added.
