A socio-political group, The Democrat, has called on Nigerians, especially leaders, to reflect on the past and imbibe the lessons of the birth of Jesus Christ as the nation celebrate at Christmas celebration.

The group’s call is contained in a statement signed by its National Leader, Apostle Kehinde Ojoawo, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Thursday.



It said that the birth of Jesus Christ thought humility, selflessness, love, compassion, and peace.

“Our leaders should emulate the leadership style of Jesus Christ, more importantly, the love for fellow human beings as a precondition for peaceful coexistence.

“They should build a strong, united and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement aid.

The group also urged leaders to eschew selfishness, saying that such a vice could never yield good things but hardship on the people.

It called on leaders to be compassionate about bringing succour to the people they govern to prevent unavoidable anger, which may be dangerous and difficult to curtail.

It urged leaders to be humble, altruistic, and faithful to God as well as ensure that the nation’s common wealth was distributed for the benefit of all Nierians.

The group called on leaders to respect the human right of citizens and to abide by the rule of law in order to promote peace and harmony.

It also urged them to refrain from amassing the nation’s wealth for themselves at the expense of other Nigerians.

It also called on the Federal Government to extend an olive branch to the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra and the Independent People of Biafra.

The group advised the government to engage them in a meaningful dialogue that would promote peace and unity in Nigeria
