Fuel scarcity bites harder in Lagos, as long queues obstructs traffic and creates traffic jam
Fuel scarcity in Lagos is not showing any sign of abetting as motorists now queue along major roads and highways, thereby compounding the traffic problem in the state.
It was learnt that many of the filling stations were shut and those opened had long queues.
The queues obstructed traffic and created traffic jam along the highways.
A motorist, who wanted to be simply identified as Akin, said on social media that someone was killed in the traffic.
He said, “The traffic situation in Lagos has been hellish to say the least. I know someone that died in his car at CMS yesterday (Friday). The congestion has continued till today as a journey of 20 minutes is now two hours plus especially in areas such as Ikeja, Ketu, Ogba, Ojodu Berger, Gbagada, Oworonshoki, Apapa, Ikorodu road and others.”
Our correspondent observed that fuel sold in most of the stations above N87 per litre.
In the Agege area, however, a filling station sold per litre for N87, but the fuel attendants insisted on taking N100 from every motorist and N50 from motorcyclists.
Asked reason for the additional charge, one of them said, “We also need to make our profit. We cannot sell for N87 just like that.”
At the exit of the station was a blockade set up by some hoodlums who insisted on being given their share as well.
At a filling station at the Isheri end of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, it was observed that although the fuel metre read N87 per litre, the attendant sold a litre for N110 into the car.
The attendant said he was not allowed to sell into jerrycans.
He promised to sell into kegs on the condition that motorists paid N120 per litre.
