Activities at the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) Staff school were abruptly disrupted on Tuesday when the Headmaster of the School Mr. Sunday Ogunmade reportedly stabbed one of the teachers on the head with a knife.

Although the identity of the victim could not be established as at press time, some teachers in the school who confirmed the incident to our reporter on the phone, blamed the incident on a row between Ogunmade and the victim over non-payment of February Salary and the de-harmonisation of Teachers in the school.

A source in the school revealed that the de-harmonisation was executed, plunging many of the staff into deep financial crisis as the new salary structure was far less than what the teachers who were initially employed by AOCOED and paid according to the college salary structure prior to the de-harmonisation.

“Many of them (teachers) were employed by AOCOED and given a letter to that effect. So when the de-harmonisation occurred, we told them to go to court rather than signed a document brought to them by management so they would not indict themselves.

“Some of them had taken loans from their various cooperatives and now servicing the loans became a huge problem as it will now take them longer time to pay up.

“But when the February salary was delayed, the teachers in frustration approached the headmaster today (yesterday) and asked him to approach the management. That was when the Headmaster got angry and stabbed one of those who led the delegation.

Another account claimed Ogunmade’s appointment under the immediate past administration did not go down well with some teachers who have been there for long and who felt an insider could have been a better choice than Ogunmade who according to them, was brought from a public school in town and imposed on them.

The source said there had been a bottled up animosity which came to a head yesterday and resulting in the attack that led to many teachers fleeing the school premises in fear.

The college PRO Adebowale Odunayo could not be reached for comments as his two phones remained switched off.
