Onazi vow Super Eagles will beat Egypt
LAZIO midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has said the Super Eagles will pick the AFCON 2017 ticket ahead of group leaders Egypt.
The Lazio midfielder maintained the Eagles are no strangers to walking a tight rope during qualifying rounds for major tournaments and maintained that Nigeria will triumph over Egypt. In an interview with Africanfootball.com, the Lazio midfielder said,
“We will make it to AFCON 2017 by the grace of God. This time, it’s going to be a different ball game. It’s unfortu nate that we are always in situations like this when we want to qualify for major competitions like the Nations Cup and World Cup.”
He, however, remains optimistic, particularly against the Pharaohs of Egypt. He said, “There are no unbeatable teams in the world. We can actually beat them. They are coming to our home first and victory in the match is very important for us. We have to do all we can to beat them and go top of the group because that’s the surest way we can qualify.”
Onazi was mindful of the disappointment Eagles’ non-qualification for the 2015 Afcon caused Nigerians. “I believe this time around we will be matured about it and we know how the emotions were when we couldn’t make it to the last edition of the Nations Cup. We will be very direct and serious about it.”
