Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has asked all political appointees and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state to resist any form of arrest by security agents on trumped-up charges.

Wike also told senior government officials to resist should any security agent attempt to arrest them on trumped-up charges with the intention of destabilising the PDP before the March 19 rerun in the state.

A statement signed on Friday by the Special Assistant on Electronic Media to the Governor, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, indicated that Wike got a security report that the Director General of the Department of State Services had directed one Abdullahi in the State Command of the DSS to arrest PDP leaders and the party candidates for the rerun.

The governor, according to the statement, said the government and party functionaries should not follow operatives of the DSS and other security agents to their offices under any guise.

The governor said the current security clampdown on Rivers State was part of the plot to rig the forthcoming rerun, adding that such a plot would fail.
