The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra Command on Monday disclosed that they are putting measures in place to facilitate the free flow of traffic and to reduce road accidents during the Easter period.
Mr Paulinus Akpotobo, the Unit Commander of FRSC in Onitsha, said this during a sensitization programme organized for commercial vehicle drivers and motorcycle operators.
“People come in from far and near to buy goods in Onitsha and the drivers tend to overload such goods in their vehicles,’’ Akpotobo said.
According to the unit commander, the corps has begun a massive arrest of commercial motorcyclist who ply the roads without helmets, as well as commercial motorist who disobeyed traffic rules and regulations.
He also advised the government to construct pedestrian bridges to reduce the high number of those injured or even killed while trying to cross the expressways.
“Consistently drivers knocked down many people, who attempted to cross the expressways because there were no bridges for them to cross,” the unit commander said.
