MFM FC missed out on the chance to climb to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League log as they played out a surprisingly low-key 0-0 draw against local rivals at Onikan Stadium.

The first edition of the fixture was expected to be one for the Onikan crowd to savour – MFM FC having the opportunity to leapfrog Kano Pillars in the standings, while Ikorodu United had scored two goals in their previous outings plus one win.

But such thrills were in meagre supply throughout 90 minutes contested by two of the youngest assembled starting XIs in Nigeria topflight history, with Ikorodu failing to make home advantage count.

Olukoya Boy's 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars on Wednesday handed Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side to move to the NPFL summit, but the point means they remain third, behind Kano Pillars with one point.

Agbane Dandy’s dipping shot was superbly touched onto the crossbar by Abayomi Folarin midway through the first half, while Moshood Kabiru struck the base of the post with 10 minutes remaining.

The draw leaves Ikorodu down in 13th, still five points behind their rivals and six adrift of leaders Pillars.
