A former Special Assistant on Youths under ex-governor Segun Oni-Peoples Democratic Party’s administration in Ekiti State, Pastor Yemi Olayinka, has alleged that Governor Ayodele Fayose’s dictatorial tendency has ruined the acceptability of the PDP in the state.

Olayinka said, as popular and acceptable as the PDP had been since it took control of governance in Ekiti in 2003 during Fayose’s first coming, the governor’s running of the party like his personal fiefdom, has constituted a great impediment to the fortunes of the party, among members and the masses.

Olayinka, who spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Sunday, while defecting to opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), said Fayose’s alleged totalitarian disposition led to the massive defections of some bigwigs from the PDP to other political parties in recent time. The former PDP local government chairmanship aspirant was received by the Acting State Chairman of the Party, Mrs Kemi Olaleye at ward 08 in Ado Ekiti capital city, among other chieftains that graced the ceremony. He said: “I love PDP so well that I decided that come rain, come sunshine, I will never defect to APC.

But when Fayose came, he hijacked the party. He is the State Working Committee, the Commissioners, the Assembly members, to the extent that nobody could have a say. “He has forgotten so soon that during his misadventure to Labour Party, some of us stayed back in the PDP and prevented it from total collapse.

If PDP had died before he came, would he have won the governorship ticket? Though, today, Fayose has succeeded in killing the party in Ekiti . “I can’t afford to stay in a party that is being controlled by a power-greedy individual. I am a team player and I believe in the ethos of democracy , so we are leaving the PDP for Fayose all alone”. Olayinka, who harped on sustained unity in APC, promised to work harmoniously with all the party leaders to reclaim Ekiti in 2018.
